Dempster Highway – Dawson City to Inuvik

Dempster Highway, Yukon Territory & Northwest Territories, Canada – 2007. The Dempster Highway is a 736km (457mi) gravel road which begins at the Klondike Highway about 40km (25mi) east of Dawson City, Yukon and goes north and east to Inuvik, Northwest Territories. There are only two places were food or fuel is available along the entire highway, Eagle Plains which is a motel, restaurant and service station and is about mid-point and Fort McPherson the Northwest Territories. Because of the time of year there was almost no traffic on the more northern parts of the road. There was very little wildlife but the scenery and views were stunning. The Dempster Highway is unique because it is the only public highway in Canada which crosses the Arctic Circle.
